Our Story

Founded in 1987 by a group of ambitious college graduates with a shared vision, our company began as SolarCare in Bethlehem, PA. What started as a dream quickly evolved into a mission to make a global impact on healthcare. In 2000, we officially became OraSure Technologies, Inc. (OTI), entering the public market as OSUR on the Nasdaq stock exchange, and setting the stage for continued diagnostic innovation and growth.

Over the years, we’ve expanded our reach and capabilities through strategic acquisitions, including DNA Genotek Inc., Sherlock Biosciences, Inc and BioMedomics, Inc. Today, OTI offers a diverse portfolio of products that reflect our commitment to advancing healthcare.

Our offerings include rapid diagnostic tests for COVID-19, HIV, HCV, syphilis, sickle-cell, and Ebola, as well as self-collection devices that stabilize DNA and RNA from a wide range of sample types—saliva, oral fluid, urine, skin cells, blood and stool—with more on the horizon.

OTI remains headquartered in Bethlehem, PA. In this location and in other sites nearby, our team works on the development, productions, and distribution of point-of-care diagnostic and collection devices, and other technologies designed to detect or diagnose critical medical conditions.

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Our DNA Genotek team in Ottawa, Canada, develops world-class molecular sample management solutions.

Cambridge, UK ● Abingdon, UK ● Newton, MA USA

Our Sherlock Biosciences teams in Newton, Mass., and Cambridge and Oxford, U.K., are working to develop an accurate, disposable molecular diagnostics platform that can be used at the point of need, as well as a molecular self-test for Chlamydia Trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria Gonorrhoeae (NG).

Our BioMedomics team in Morrisville, North Carolina, develop Sickle SCAN^®—the world’s first rapid, point-of-care test for detecting sickle-cell disease (SCD) and sickle cell trait.
